CAMPHILL DUFFCARRIG TRANSFERRED TO HSE FOLLOWING REGISTRATION CANCELLATION BY HIQA

Residents guaranteed of continuing service in Duffcarrig or in another location

Camphill Duffcarrig has been transferred to HSE (the transfer took place on 3 July last) following receipt of a notice from HIQA in early June that the centre’s registration was going to be cancelled. Today’s HIQA statement is simply a confirmation of their earlier notice. Families, community members with support needs, staff and their union, SIPTU, were informed of these developments nearly two months ago and have all cooperated with the transfer of the service to the HSE. Ann Sheehan, CCoI CEO, said that the residents at Duffcarrig are guaranteed of a continuing service either in Duffcarrig or at another location. “Camphill received a notice from HIQA in early June that the registration of our residential service at Duffcarrig was going to be cancelled. This was due to ongoing issues of noncompliance at the centre with the regulations governing the provision of services to people with disabilities.

“Discussions immediately took place between Camphil and the HSE with regards to transfer of undertakings including staff transfers where appropriate. However, it is important to say that all of the residents at Duffcarrig have been guaranteed a continuing service there or in another location.” Ms Sheehan said that Camphill is extremely disappointed about the registration cancellation for Duffcarrig. “Huge efforts were made by Camphill management and staff to try and tackle the issues highlighted by HIQA but we simply weren’t able to address them all in time even with the signicant support received from the HSE.” Camphill continue to provide residential and day services through our Community in Ballymoney.
